Milan Design Week 2025: Circularity and Ecodesign

Milan Design Week 2025 has come to an end.
For us at Matrec, this edition was particularly intense and full of food for thought.
We witnessed several creative proposals with the presentation of innovative products and materials that definitely look towards circularity. It is clear that the industry is (gradually) starting a path of an increasingly responsible and sustainability-oriented approach.
But Milan Design Week has also been an important opportunity for networking, discussion and collaboration. We met many industry leaders, with whom we dialogued and shared our expertise, planning concrete actions for the development of new circular products and materials.
The focus is on measuring circularity and implementing strategies for the implementation of the requirements of the new EU Ecodesign Regulation. A topic, the latter, that is crucial for ensuring product conformity and promoting a more circular and resilient economy.
Furthermore, we are happy to be a partner in the ‘Circular Design for Furniture’ project, a project involving over twenty students from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design – USA), who came to Milan to meet with leading Italian design furniture companies: Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Zanotta and Cappellini!
After training on aspects of circular design by our CEO Marco Capellini, the students received four different inspiring project briefs to think about the future of furniture from a circular perspective.
The culmination of this extraordinary journey will be an exclusive presentation in Savannah next May, with a special event celebrating the winners for each company.
