Nokia has presented the new G22 model: the company’s first smartphone model that can be repaired by the user.
This is a new step towards circularity taken by the Finnish multinational telecommunications equipment manufacturer which, with the presentation of this new model, wanted to send out a signal against the much contested planned obsolescence.
The project is a collaboration with iFixit. This is a global platform committed to promoting the repair of consumer electronics products that offers manuals, spare parts and tools for do-it-yourself repairs.
For the Nokia G22, it will be possible to access guides and purchase FixKits containing parts and tools needed to replace dead batteries, broken screens, bent charging ports and scratched covers.
Repair is one of the sustainable strategies undertaken by Nokia to extend the life of its devices, reducing the amount of waste and limiting the use of natural resources.
In addition to repairability, Nokia also worked on the materials used, including a glossy back cover made of 100% recycled plastic.
The new mobile phone also comes with a three-year warranty and includes a memory extension function.
