The sustainable car seat upholstery for the new Audi A3 are made from 89% recycled PET fabric from post-consumer plastic bottles and is part of the German car manufacturer’s sustainability strategy. The fabric is produced through a process that only considers light-coloured plastic bottles in order to have greater colour uniformity in the final stage when they are dyed.
The bottles are separated from their caps and crushed into small granulated flakes, which are used to produce the polyester yarn through large weaving looms. Subjected to quality controls and stress tests, it is then cleaned through a special washing cycle and glued to fleece to ensure the comfort of the seat.
