McDonald’s promotes a new industrial symbiosis project

McDonald’s strengthens its path towards a business model of circular economy through the industrial symbiosis, to enhance the value of waste from its kitchens.
The partnership includes two players operating in the Dutch market: Havi, a partner that manages the McDonald’s restaurant supply chain, and Neste, the world’s leading supplier of renewable diesel.
The collaboration consists of the conversion of used cooking oil from the chain’s restaurants in the Netherlands into renewable diesel, which is processed in the Rotterdam refinery. The renewable fuel will then be used by Havi vehicles to transport goods to the chain’s restaurants.
McDonald’s has set itself a target of 2030 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its entire restaurant network and offices by 36% compared to 2015, through collaboration with licensees, suppliers and manufacturers. McDonald’s is also committed to spreading sustainable practices throughout the supply chain.
