Recycled and bio-based materials used in the toy industry

An Italian toy company, has used a new alternative recipe to rigid plastic for the production of two product lines dedicated to children, beach toys and play balls.
As for the beach set, a circular material has been used that consists of a plastic material component mixed with a pre-consumer recycled food waste component. The material undergoes a mechanical recovery treatment, therefore without the addition of chemical additives to maintain the physical-chemical properties and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Through the use of recycled material, the company is able to mitigate its impact on the environment, reducing annual net emissions by about 600 tons of CO2 eq.
The company’s second project concerns game balls, developed with a new certified organic-based formula, which uses 50% of a derivative of vegetable origin. Completely free of phthalates, their production process allows a reduction of annual net emissions of about 2000 tons of CO2 eq.
