Recycled plastic in Pasta Garofalo’s packaging

Pastificio Lucio Garofalo has just unveiled its new packaging composed of 30 % recyclable and recycled plastic, obtained from the chemical recycling of waste from plastic packaging.
It is the result of extensive research, design, evaluation and in-depth work carried out by the company with a view to improving the environmental performance of its packaging.
Garofalo is the first company in the pasta industry to use plastic obtained from chemical recycling.
It is a technology that allows pyrolysis oil to be obtained from polymers by converting them into a new raw material that can be used to produce plastics; it retains the characteristics of the virgin material.
This is a different process from the mechanical process that has been used until now; chemical recycling opens up unprecedented recycling possibilities for waste fractions that have been difficult to recycle to date.
The Pastificio has also joined LifeGate’s IMPACT ZERO project, pledging to offset CO2 emissions generated by the production and marketing of more than 750 tons of polypropylene, used as the primary packaging of products destined for the Italian market.
