Shoes made with post-consumer waste materials

An Italian company, with deep experience in the footwear sector, has created entire collections dedicated to the pillars of the circular economy, laying the foundations on the concept of reuse and recycling of post-consumer waste materials.

After intensive research into sustainable materials suitable for the production of footwear, travelling through deposits filled with tires, warehouses of discarded clothes and fabrics, sail ships, etc. … some resistant and high quality circular materials were selected, which despite having already been used for other products, could serve as a new resource.

The sole of the shoes is made using recycled rubber from end-of-life tyres, made from a mixture of high quality polymers with high chemical-physical characteristics that remain unchanged even after the recycling process.

Recycled towels recovered from the hotel sector are used for the inner linings, thus prolonging the life of the fabrics such as pure cotton terry, soft and comfortable suitable for lining the inside of the shoes.

Depending on the model, different sustainable materials are used for the upper, such as:

- the sail, being made of high quality fabrics, suitable to withstand the force of the winds, salt corrosion and ultraviolet rays of the sun, are a circular material suitable for resistance to the upper.

- post-consumer recycled cotton denim, generally produced with a diagonal weave that makes its manufacture particularly robust. The popularity of the garment in which it is used, such as jeans, make it easy to find and ideal for recycling in the footwear industry.

- this fabric is generally made of polycotton, coming from beach umbrellas and deckchairs now broken, used during the summer seasons in seaside resorts. It is a very resistant material, able to withstand all kinds of atmospheric stress such as sun, rain and salt water.

These models are produced through the technique of sewing the upper to the insole, thus allowing greater flexibility, resistance and durability.
