Mattel, a world leader in children’s toys and entertainment, has set itself the goal by 2030 to convert its material capital entirely into recycled or bio-based materials for the production of its products and packaging.
By defining environmental sustainability as a strategic asset of primary importance, it has set up a cross-functional team dedicated to bringing the results of Research&Development activities to the company’s different sectors and brands, focusing in particular on creating innovation in materials and introducing sustainability as a key issue to develop design and production processes.
During 2020, a sustainable version of the iconic Fisher-Price® Rock-a-Stack® toy made from a bio-plastic sugarcane material will be launched on the market.
As for packaging, the company currently sources 93% of its packaging from recycled paper and recycled wood fiber or FSC-certified. In addition, the company has joined the standardized How2Recycle labelling system, which provides guidance and instructions to the end-user for packaging recycling.
Sustainability becomes a corporate priority for Mattel
