Uniqlo offers a new life to its used clothes

Uniqlo, Japanese fashion company, through its Circular Sustainability Programs has promoted the collection of used clothing of the brand to give them a second chance. The initiative called “RE.UNIQLO” lays the foundation on 3 important principles of the circular economy: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Through the brand’s stores are collected second-hand clothes, then subjected to a scrupulous selection. The garments still in good condition are classified into 18 detailed categories such as season, sex, size, climate and culture and destined for reuse through donations to NGOs to support the needy. Garments that do not pass the first selection are destined for recycling processes, depending on the type of garment a different destination is defined.
The comforters and feathers through the use of a particular technology, are recycled for the creation of new garments such as the line ‘Recycled Down Jackets’ launched on the market with the autumn/winter 2020 collection, characterized by recycled padding that has allowed a reduction in the use of virgin raw materials. Other garments have been recycled and used as soundproofing material.
