Vegetable-based textile padding

At Helsinki Design Week, a group of students from Aalto University presented prototypes of household items, cushions and jackets featuring a vegetable-based filling made of cellulose fibre.
The filling is made of typha latifolia, a type of plant that grows in very humid areas, typically found in Finnish peat lands.
The project aims to combine the production of a circular material with the promotion of peatland ecosystem restoration.
The circular material provides properties similar to down and polyester fibres.
